Math/Art
Big Button Book Fun 1-10
Children create a class big book that will reinforce their understanding of the numbers one through ten.
Review shapes. Review counting the corners & sides on the shapes. Square 4 corners & 4 equal sides. Rectangle 4 corner & 2 short sides, 2 long sides. Triangle 3 corners...
Have the children count with you as you write the numbers 1-10 on separate sheets of construction paper. Write the numeral on the top of each page. If you have enough children to create 2 big books then count down from 10 when numbering the second book's construction papers.
Have children draw different shapes of buttons on each page to correspond to the number on the page.
Give the children the numbered pages with a clear understanding that the child is to draw a picture of a button to represent the numeral on their page. For the larger numbers children can be paired up. Number 1=1 button....
Supervise closely as a child may need help counting how many buttons already drawn and a reminder of the number on the paper (could fill the whole paper with button drawings).
If a child gets done early have them work on a piece of construction paper that will be the cover of the books.
When done gather the pages and assemble into a big book. If your group created 2 big books assemble one book 1-10 and the other book 10-1.
Read the number/shape books together. Count the shapes. Name the shapes.

Match the Colors
Cut out circle shapes from different colored construction paper. You can mark 4 dots in middle so that the circles look like buttons. Draw a large simple flower on paper. Make the flower larger than the circle.
Write a color word at the top. The color word could be wrote in the color it is. Child colors the flower the color of the color word. Then finds a circle shape that is the same color and glues it in the center of the flower.
